ROTC Cadet Receives Scholarship From U.S. Military

Between the first and second quarters of the football game against Ferrum on Nov. 16, Will Davis (Junior) earned a scholarship from the U.S. Army.

Will Davis (Junior, Class of 2021) was contracted with a full scholarship and a future opportunity to serve as a Commissioned Officer, awarded to him by the United States Army on Saturday, Nov. 16 in between the first and second quarters at the football game against Ferrum on the Emory & Henry main campus. Davis met all the requirements (academic, physical and training) to earn this opportunity and will go on to represent himself, Emory & Henry, and the United States Army with distinction.

Davis was joined by his parents Cindy and Lou Davis of Wake Forest, N.C., President John Wells of Emory & Henry and Lieutenant Colonel Shawn Dodge, professor of Military Science at East Tennessee State University (ETSU).

“We are proud of Will and all that he has accomplished,” said John Wells. “Like all of our ROTC students, we know he’ll go on to make Emory & Henry proud.” 

Davis also returned his Bonner Scholarship to Emory & Henry “to be used for another student who otherwise might not be able to attend Emory & Henry.”

The Emory & Henry ROTC program began in the Fall of 2018, being reformed after its disbanding in 1920. The program is open to all current and incoming students enrolled at Emory & Henry. Upon graduation with a degree of their choice, students will be commissioned as officers and may serve in the Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard. The partnership with ETSU will allow Emory & Henry students to become cadets and participate in leadership and physical training courses at ETSU while continuing their academic studies. Participants who contract with the Army ROTC will earn a stipend and six credits.
