Homecoming E&H Author Book-Signing Features A Crime-Solving Doodle

by Monica Hoel
Four E&H authors will ply their pens at the second annual E&H Alumni Authors Book-Signing event on Homecoming day, Sat. Oct. 16, 11 am-Noon. You’ll find them in front of the bookstore.

Poet April Asbury (E&H ’96) will be signing her brand new chapbook of poetry called Woman with Crows. Book endorsements give high marks, and include the likes of Rita Quillen, Diane Gilliam, and Kentucky’s poet laureate Crystal Wilkinson. Ms. Wilkinson says of the collection: “Woman with Crows explores the secrets of childhood, girlhood, and what it means to be a woman. These well-crafted poems delve into mythologies old and new and show us a myriad of ways to tell a story. And we listen again and again.”

Cover of d.w. saur's book, Dark Days. d.w. saur (E&H ’05) will be signing his award-winning book Dark Days, a work of fantasy fiction that was a finalist in the Feathered Quill Book Award category of Science Fiction/Fantasy and Teens. It won honorable mention in the YA action category in the 2021 Readers’ Favorites Book Awards, and won a 2020 Royal Dragonfly Book Award in the categories of YA Fiction and Science Fiction/Fantasy. The storyline in his upcoming book, Just Friends, will be centered on the Emory & Henry campus.

Chrissie Anderson will be signing her book Blue Ridge Christmas. This is a collection of stories about Christmas in rural Virginia and Tennessee, starting with a tale from the Virginia Creeper Train line in Ashe County, NC, from the 1920’s, and ending with a woman’s Christmas story from the first round of check distributions from Dolly Parton’s My People Fund after the wildfires in Gatlinburg, TN, in late 2016. In-between, the reader encounters Santa, Duran Duran, Squeaky Fromme, a baby goat, Mary Kay, and other memories of Christmas past.

Cover of Elizabeth Fletcher's book, Walk Softly and Carry a Big Bat, Lincoln McCarthy.Elizabeth Fletcher (E&H ’86) will be signing a book that has connections to Emory & Henry. Walk Softly and Carry a Big Bat, Lincoln McCarthy is the latest in a series of children’s books about a crime-solving labradoodle named Lincoln McCarthy. Lincoln will be at the book-signing! And Elizabeth will also be selling chocolates in the likeness of the fuzzy crime-fighter. Some of the proceeds will benefit the E&H Baseball program.

Come by the bookstore on Homecoming morning and meet the authors and leave with a wonderful memento of your E&H Homecoming experience!
