A Boost of Snacks, Food and Supplies When in Need

Emory & Henry College has been awarded a $1,000 grant from Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, earmarked for the Stinger’s Supply Shelf coordinated by Sodexo, dining service provider at Emory & Henry College.

The Stinger’s Supply Shelf was created to combat the silent epidemic of hunger and food insecurity on campus and support students’ quality of life. Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation is awarding grants to fund on-campus food pantries where Sodexo employees have an active role.

For more than 21 years, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation has been working with and through partners to feed children and young adults in the U.S. and to advocate for policies that ensure no one is hungry. They have granted more than $36 million to help families and children at-risk of hunger.

“Congratulations on being awarded this grant and thank you for all you do to help students get the nutritious and easy-to-prepare food they need so that they can focus on their health, wellbeing, and academic success,” noted Roxanne Moore, Executive Director of the Foundation.

Stinger’s Supply Shelf is a free resource for all Emory & Henry students, especially those who do not have enough food, supplies, or funds. “Students can pick up a meal, snack or the ingredients to prepare a meal with no questions asked,” said Sam Walker, General Manager, E&H Dining Services, Sodexo Universities Division. “ There is a range of food available including beverages, snacks, fresh fruit, and refrigerated or frozen food and meals which can be reheated.”

Availability of different items varies. A wide variety of toiletries, personal hygiene products, and school supplies are also available. Any student can access the Stinger’s Supply Shelf and they are encouraged to write down requests on a dry erase board in the supply room. “We’re always listening and ready to meet their needs,” said Walker.
