We are pleased to recognize Marilyn Murray of Bristol, Tennessee as the first recipient of the Mary June Wall Scholarship for Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Marilyn Murray is a 2021 Honors Graduate of Northeast State Community College and a 2022 Honors Graduate of King University, majoring in Psychology. She is employed by Regions Bank in Kingsport, Tennessee, volunteers for Caris Hospice care of Abingdon, Virginia on the weekends, and also operates a non-profit called The Phoenix Community Outreach for the local homeless community to help supply water and prepackaged food for those in need. In her downtime, her hobbies include; chess, sci-fi movies, reading about mental health, and caring for her pets. Marilyn voiced her appreciation by saying, “This scholarship will greatly assist me in my Master’s program due to the need to leave my current employer for practicum and internship. I hope to bring light to our community about mental health and normalize seeking counseling and therapy. I have future goals of hosting free weekend clinics for mental health in our local area for those without insurance or financial means. Access to mental health should be available to all that have a need. I am excited to begin this next chapter of my educational pursuit and am very grateful to receive this scholarship award. Thank you so much!”
