The B.G. Raines Forum Improves Education in the Region

“For 31 years, the B.G. Raines Education Forum has brought exemplary educators and leaders from all regions of our nation to Southwest Virginia,” said Dr. Sandra Frederick, E&H Education Department chair. “The speakers provide our local educators and community partners with insights into student learning, current educational research, and sound teaching pedagogy that can immediately be taken back into our regional schools.”

The Forum was held virtually this year in April. “We have more than 1,000 educators in the region that are alumni of our Education Department which has a lasting impact on learning and student growth in our region.”

This year’s speaker, John Almarode, has presented his work to the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy at the White House. He is associate professor in the Department of Early, Elementary and Reading Education and director of the Content Teaching Academy at James Madison University. =
