Chris Epperly is Producing Events... REALLY BIG Events

Hanging out with Oprah Winfrey, Steve Martin, Barack Obama, and Gwyneth Paltrow are just part of the job when you’re Chris Epperly.

Chris is Director of Events and Projects for VIVA Creative – a marketing and communications firm that creates big marketing events, big entertainment events, and big-name media events. They use all the latest technology, enlist a team of creative minds, and shy away from nothing. When asked if he’s ever had to say “no” to any project or idea, Chris couldn’t really think of a time when that happened. “We may have to make adjustments, but we always find a way to make it work for the client. And we stick to the budget!” (Honestly, for a man in such a creative enterprise, he gets deeply excited about talking budget.)

When Oprah wanted to interviews during the pandemic, Chris and his team found a way to use green screen so effectively that it looked like she was in the room with her guests. It made President Obama say, “This is pretty cool technology you’ve got here!”

When Rob Reiner’s family wanted to an online memorial tribute, Chris and his team were there to bring together some of the biggest names in comedy. “It was unreal to be sitting there listening to Steve Martin and Martin Short talking and giggling.”

When the headliner for a huge Southeby’s International Realty event dropped out only hours before the presentation, Chris and his team secured Gwyneth Paltrow to step in at the last minute. “There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that no one ever knows about. I get giddy when we’re able to smooth out all the wrinkles and put on an amazing show.”

Chris is a recent inductee into the E&H Sports Hall of Fame for his success as a kicker for the Wasps football team. Since he’s now the guy who gets to hang out at Oprah’s house and rub elbows with high-dollar CEOs, we asked Chris what his 19-year-old self would say to present-day Chris if he could see him now. He laughed and immediately said, “Make the field goal! Don’t miss!” While some people might hate all the pressure that comes with being a kicker, Chris said he embraced it and leaned into it. Apparently those nerves of steel are helping him now in a hectic, high-stakes, high-profile professional life. “People ask if I even have a pulse because I stay so calm. But I promise, my heart is racing.”
