Alana Smith to pursue a graduate education in cognitive neuroscience and biochemistry
Our Emory & Henry seniors are preparing to graduate and change the world.
Alana Smith of Tortola, British Virgin Islands will receive a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in Hispanic studies.
Alana will graduate with the class of 2023. In addition to her studies in biology, Smith is a member of DEI&B, Multicultural Student Alliance, spiritual life, Spanish club, ASL club, Women in STEM and Tri Beta. “Emory & Henry College has helped me to step outside of my comfort zone and not be afraid to try something different,” Smith said. “The Biology department has definitely set me on the right path toward my MD/Ph.D. goals, but Emory & Henry has also given me exposure to such a unique set of courses and experiences that I don’t think I would have been open to elsewhere.”
“This place has also introduced me to some of my most meaningful relationships. The relationships you make at Emory & Henry even with faculty and staff really do make an impact on how you see life. But also, career center employees, advisors and even just professors from in and out of my major have made me feel like even if I get lost in my pursuits after graduation, I still have people that care to see me do well and that I can turn to for guidance,” Smith said.
“I plan to attend an MD/Ph.D. program for cognitive neuroscience and biochemistry in the UK in January 2024,” Smith said of her plans after graduation. “For now, I will be attending a shadowing program in the EU after graduation and increasing my work experience in the medical field.”
