Victor Trussell Has Just Published A Children’s Book!

by Billy Chandler

Gilroy’s Good Heart is available on Nov. 3, 2023, and while it’s aimed at children, adults have already told Victor that they found the book’s message to be meaningful to them.

The electronic version of the book was available early, and it has garnered 5-star ratings and strong reviews. Victor laughs as he reports, “At one point it was outselling Amanda Gorman’s book. I definitely took a screen shot of that!”

The story of Gilroy might be a bit autobiographical: it’s about a kid who really likes to help other people and Victor says that was very true of his own childhood. Gilroy, however, makes a pretty messy mistake and it hurts his self confidence. Gilroy has to learn that in addition to looking out for others it is important to take care of yourself.

Victor was a theatre major at Emory & Henry and spent his first years out of college traveling around the country as an actor. During that time he occasionally had a side gig to make ends meet, and one of those jobs made a lasting impression: being a kindergarten teacher.

That experience noodled around in his mind for awhile until he finally decided to leave the nomadic world of theatre and go back to school to become a school psychologist. And he loves it.

He’s hopeful that this latest project, a book that addresses personal worth and resilience, will be helpful to kids as they learn to traverse a complicated world. And he’s not disappointed that it sounds like there are some parents who are also learning those good lessons as well.

You can enjoy a fun conversation with Victor the actor, counselor, and children’s author on The Duck Pond Wall podcast.
