Terica West Is A Bakestere With A Secret Ingredient

But her friends don’t like her to talk about it.

Terica says when she bakes a cake we can be assured that it has only the best and freshest ingredients – including her secret weapon. It’s a crucial element she refers to as, “Fresh out the butt chicken eggs. I have a friend who hates it when I call them that!”

Terica is a graphic artist who has recently decided to try her hand as a self-employed baker – or “bakestere,” which is an Old English term for a woman baker. Her cakes are beautiful, but the thing she’s proudest of is that they taste unlike any other cake. “I’ve had people text me and say, ‘I’m at a birthday party, and the cake isn’t yours, and I’m sad.’” 

She has tweaked her recipes to achieve just the right tastes and she swears by the kind of eggs she uses. Fortunately she has a friend with chickens who keeps her stocked with the freshest of eggs, and that makes all the difference.

Terica has a talent for whipping up success. When she got downsized from a job in 2022, she found another job in graphic design the very same day. But after about 6 months in that position, she realized she really longed to be her own boss. She had found herself baking a lot to deal with stress while her dad was having some health challenges, so she decided to see where that road would take her.

These days, to keep up with orders, she has to keep the mixer whirling. She even invented a baked good sales event she calls a “cupcake drop” where folks can pick up a 6- or 12-pack of cupcakes in a variety of flavors (usually customers have to order a single type). She came up with the idea in order to make a little mad so she could buy a ticket for a Snoop Dogg concert. The event was such a sizzle she now has to repeat it routinely to keep her fans happy. (She made enough on that first one to buy two tickets, by the way.)

Being in business on her own is no piece of cake, but she’s learning more every day about both the business and the baking. “You should see the first cakes I decorated! It’s humbling! I’m just so grateful that people want my cake.”
