Emory & Henry University Holds Inaugural Graduate Commencement Ceremony with its First Master of Business Administration Graduating Class

On Saturday, August 10, at Southwest Virginia Education Center in Abingdon, Va., Emory & Henry University held its commencement ceremonies for its School of Health Sciences graduate students and the first class to graduate from the School of Business MBA program. A total of 103 students received their diplomas. Eight graduates from the inaugural Master of Business Administration cohort were celebrated.

“This is a monumental milestone today, as we celebrate our graduates alongside our 10 year anniversary of serving the healthcare industry in Southwest Virginia,” said Dr. Lou Fincher, Interim President of the University and Founding Dean for the School of Health Sciences. “Students have traveled from all around the United States to study at E&H and to better understand rural healthcare needs. The region is blessed that many of our graduates stay and serve in the area. We have amazing partnerships built in the region too for clinical and hands-on learning that we are grateful for.”

Keynote speakers at the commencement ceremony were former Emory & Henry presidents, John W. Wells and Rosalind Reichard who were instrumental in launching the School of Business and the School of Health Sciences, respectively.

Emory & Henry University’s School of Health Sciences celebrated its milestone anniversary of ten years with the class of 2024. The Health Sciences campus of Emory & Henry was launched in 2014 to prepare highly skilled healthcare professionals who provide quality patient care and actively engage in leadership and service opportunities within their professional organizations and communities. The School of Health Sciences offers graduate programs including Masters in Addiction Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling both offered online, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Master of Physician Assistant Studies as well as undergraduate degrees in Nursing. The Health Sciences campus is located in the Appalachian highlands of Marion, Va. a short driving distance to Hungry Mother State Park. The campus has facilities suitable for healthcare training such as a clinical simulation lab and a fall prevention center as well as the Mel Leaman Free Clinic offering health and medical services to the local community. Launched in 2020, the Emory & Henry University School of Business offers undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Accounting. The School of Business introduced its hybrid Master of Business Administration program in 2022 with an emphasis on experiential learning. The historical Carriger Hall on Emory & Henry’s main campus in Emory, Va. is home to the School of Business. The renovated building is one of the most technologically advanced facilities on campus and it includes breakout rooms, a fully-glassed executive board room, a collaboration hall for corporate events, green screen and video conferencing rooms for distance learning, and a business incubator. Emory & Henry University is proud to celebrate the significant milestones reached by the honorable class of 2024. The institution, entering its 188th year, recently transitioned from College to University status on August 1, 2024.
