E&H Honors Former Head Football Coach Larry Bales

Larry Bales, a former head Emory & Henry football coach and current Hall of Fame inductee, recently was honored by the naming of a room in the University’s Brooks Field House.

A 1969 graduate, Bales was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 1974 in recognition of his record achievements as an outstanding player for the Wasps. An All-America receiver and draft pick for the Dallas Cowboys, Bales coached high school football before serving as Emory & Henry’s head football coach from 1979 to 1981.

The honor for Bales was made possible by the philanthropy of alumnus and former player Steve Bowery. Reflecting on Bales, Bowery said, “It is exciting to know that this beautiful room will be used and appreciated for many years to come, giving future generations an opportunity to learn about the accomplishments of Coach Bales.”

Interim E&H President Lou Fincher added, “Larry’s achievements in athletics and in business demonstrate the significance of an Emory & Henry education and serve as an inspiration to our students. We are deeply grateful to Steve for making this honor possible for one of our most accomplished graduates.”
