Doctor of Physical Therapy Early Assurance Program Announced

The DPT-EAP program offers a select number of talented high school seniors a position in the Emory & Henry College Doctor of Physical Therapy program beginning with their undergraduate studies.

This program offers selected undergraduate students a position in the graduate Doctor of Physical Therapy Program after completion of an undergraduate degree from Emory & Henry.

According to Dr. Jean Irion, Program Chair of E&H College’s DPT Program, “Physical Therapy is a great field because of the many opportunities therapists have to practice in different and unique settings. The relationships that you build with patients and their families are so positive and reflected by the high job satisfaction consistently reported in the field. Forbes has listed Physical Therapy as one of the top 10 jobs in high demand and the Wall Street Journal has reported Physical Therapy as #9 among the 200 best jobs. It is a great time to be a physical therapist!”

Any high school senior who is interested in this program must meet the following initial admission criteria: general application to Emory & Henry College, additional application and support materials to the DPT Early Assurance Program, high school GPA of 3.3 (as computed by the E&H College Office of Admissions, SAT score of 1150 or higher or ACT score of 25 or higher and an interview for selected candidates.

In order to continue in the program, the student must graduate from E&H with a cumulative GPA of 3.5, have a physical therapy prerequisite coursework GPA of 3.0 or higher, obtain a combined GRE score of 300 or higher and an analytical writing score of 3.5 or higher, complete 50 hours of observation across a variety of physical therapy settings and actively participate in E&H campus life and civic engagement opportunities on the Emory and Marion campus.

All application materials must be received by February 1, 2019 in order to be considered. The Selection Committee will meet and select up to 25 students to invite for initial interviews.

Saturday, March 2, 2019

Emory & Henry College’s School of Health Sciences graduated its first DPT class in May 2018 and currently has over 100 students in the program. Dr. Chase Edwards, a recent graduate of the DPT program stated “Emory & Henry is first and foremost an institution that prides itself on direct impact within the community at large. I believe it’s this commitment to serving those around us that sets this place apart. This special place and purpose goes with each of us as we transition after graduation into our own communities to best serve those around us.”
