Artist Gives Viewers a Visual Riddle

Posted by Billy Chandler

Taiwanese artist Hui Chi Lee presented an Artalk to the E&H college community on Sept. 10, 2018, as part of the McGlothlin Center for the Arts Guest Artist Series. Her talk was in conjunction with her exhibit, Lian’; Lian’, displayed in the McGlothlin Center Art Gallery from Sept. 3 through Sept. 29.

As her principal subject matter, her current body of work incorporates the human form and hair to explore quandaries in human relationships. Her work focuses on differences between nations and social structures, the disproportionate emphasis on consumerism, and how a lack of consideration given to spiritual dimensions has placed a heavy burden on contemporary life.

Hui Chi Lee, an assistant professor in studio art, focuses on drawing, painting and mixed media. She received her B.F.A. from the University of Arizona, M.S. in art therapy and art education from Illinois State University, and a M.F.A. in drawing and painting from the University of Florida.
