Lynne Umbarger has been an occupational therapist for more than 30 years. She has practiced OT in programs based in schools and early intervention, home health, outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and long-term care facilities for people with physical and mental dysfunction. After graduation from the OT program at Virginia Commonwealth University, she has worked in Virginia, Kansas, Wyoming, Ohio, and Michigan.

Lynne has a PhD in Educational Psychology, with a particular research interest in the education of Occupational Therapy students. She came to Emory & Henry College from Bay City, MI, but has spent most of her life in rural areas of Virginia, from the Eastern Shore to the mountains of Virginia. Her passion are research and teaching OT students and all people about the benefits and wide scope of occupational therapy practice to facilitate health and active participation in daily life. She also helps students conduct the CATS program on the Health Sciences Campus to clean, refurbish, and provide mobility equipment to children with disabilities.

Lynne lives in Marion. She is excited to be living in the beautiful mountains of Virginia and participating in an OT program that focuses on rural healthcare and OT practice that actively integrates educational experiences with other professional students at EHC.
